Though the item can be equipped by Giauque, Lippi and Frea, its main use is to break the spell of darkness in The Confessional so that you can discover the Seal of the Rahab and proceed further on your journey. It's a rare item that can only be dropped by one of the two Skeleton Mage enemies that occasionally appear as reinforcements during that fight when Skeleton Archers are defeated. The Obsidian Daphne is a gift, classified as a Trinket item, that can be discovered during Chapter 2 in a battle in the Gerseym Waterway area of The Depths.

And while the combat system is pretty expansive for such a small game, and has all those specific resistances and creature affinities and utility spells, I found a lot of options borderline useless as opposed to just buffing up to the max, dealing out tons of damage and healing HP and statuses when necessary. One thing though, I wouldn't say graphics are amazing, and there aren't really even any animations, it all plays out with these virtual board game pieces, but it works. It's also very well written: even though you never leave the one palace the game takes place in, you learn quite a bit about the setting and its details. If you're concerned about its length, it offers NG+ with new areas and a true ending for those who want more of it. That said, Crimson Shroud is a nice little experience and well worth every cent. Crimson Shroud is heavily reminiscent of that game and has the same director/writer and composer. I made a reverse suggestion not long ago to someone. I hope more people plays the game (and help searching for the "master shake", haha) Tips for the casual ones: read the wiki, as some parts of the playthrough requires you to defeat enemies in a specific order, in order to be rewarded with a demanded item. The music in the battle sections, man! It's so dense! The OST and graphics are masterpieces, given the limited size of the game. Also, winning a set amount of battles give you skills to enhance yours or impair enemy's stats, along other effects.
Identical itens can be meld together to improve it's own stats. You don't have stats progression, or levels, but every battle won gives you itens. (And if you shake the dice just right, you can manipulate the results, though I don't think ppl has figured out the in-game mentioned "master shake") sometimes you must roll to see if you can sneak into a distracted group of enemies, or even a silly thing like who will tuck it's hands on a monster goo. There are so fancy game mechanics to keep you fascinated, also, like the dice system, where you can roll for better damage, or hit %. You play the role of a group of mercenaries that happens be to raiding the same ruins: Giauque, Lippi and Frea (tank/warrior, archer and mage/healer, respectively). It has a good story about a King raiding some ruins in search of an artifact filled with the original gift (magic) that they call Crimson Shroud. Ok, maybe not for the action type, but still. I know it's a old game, but anyone else that haven't played this yet should buy it right now! I mean it! It's a hidden (really?) jewel for RPG lovers of all kinds.
